Spot World Heritage

Perimeters

Spot World Heritage (SWH) is a CNES program that makes available all data acquired by the Spot 1 to 5 constellation between 1986 and 2015, representing approximately 16 million references.

SWH relies on DINAMIS to increase the dissemination of this data to the general public: the products are distributed as open data via the CNES GEODES portal and the DINAMIS catalog thanks to a jointly developed GEODES-DINAMIS API key.

The operational mission of the five Spot 1 to 5 satellites ended in 2015 with the deorbiting of the latest Spot 5 satellite. For nearly 30 years, around 16 millions of high-resolution images (10 to 2.5 m) were acquired, covering the entire Earth.

CNES, which owns the data, has set up the SPOT World Heritage (SWH) program and created a unique database of interest. Indeed, the images acquired during nearly thirty years of operation of the Spot 1-5 constellation remain highly relevant and continue to complement other types of data newly acquired by various Earth observation satellites.

CNES has also set up the SWH-2A-Carto service, which enables SWH images to be processed in line with Sentinel 2 L1C products. SWH-2A-Carto quickly (in 1 to 5 seconds) converts SWH-1A images into equivalent L1C products (without refinement), called SWH-2A-Carto. The images are resampled in a constant altitude map projection using the simplified geometric model available in the L1A product, without re-calibration or the use of DTM. The images remain digitally encoded at 8 bits.
